When writing this post, we thought of the many different thoughts that come to mind when talking about dance: Sexy, Fluid, Elegant, Beautiful, and too many others to name. That missing quality that makes dancing so popular is grace, the ability to physically hold your own both on and off the dance floor. Of course it’s sexy, but that’s because we as human beings find grace to be a very appealing characteristic in both sexes.
When a person walks into the room, you can make a million different judgements based on his appearance, demeanor, and so much more. Now, when that person floats into the room and gracefully asserts their presence, that judgement gets greatly influenced by the manner of their entrance. Luckily, learning to dance is one of the easiest way to develop the poise that allows you to have this ever elusive characteristic. The skills and techniques you pick up when learning to dance are the same skills that allow you the body control necessary to float into any room, and look stunning doing it.
So what are you waiting for? Get out there and dance!

The single most important reason to dance is proximity. We live in an ever-more sterilized world that at its core scorns human contact. Why hug when you can shake, why shake when you can nod, and why nod when you can text. We are slowly growing ever further and further apart from each other, and human contact is on the wan.
In comes dancing, one of the only socially acceptable ways to connect with people without anyone thinking its inappropriate, politically incorrect or uncomfortable. Dancing is one of the last public venues we have which we can use to get close to people, and really connect. That physical, playful interaction is at the heart of what makes dancing so much fun. It is the exhilleration of finding yourself twirling across a dance floor, intertwined with another human being in the pursuit of fun. Pure, clean, wholesome fun.
One should never forget that about dancing, and get lost in the steps. So many dancers often lose the sheer feeling of joy under the pressure of “doing the steps right.”
Dancing is meant to be social and interactive, so why not let loose, find a partner, and connect on the dance floor. For the four minutes of that song you’ll both enjoy yourselves, even if you do step on each other’s feet!

So many people come to Dance District Social Dance Studio with only one reason to start dancing. What they don’t realize, is that their one reason is almost never the same as that of the next person. In fact, there are so many great reasons to get out and dance that you should never limit yourself to just one, because if that one reason fades for you, you might stop, and that would just be a shame!
So, what I am going to do over the course of the next few entries, is talk about the many reasons why people decide to finally take the plunge, trade in their second left foot for a right one, and start dancing!
Stay up to date by checking back often, and we’ll do our best to inspire you to stay on your feet. In the mean time, let us know what your own personal reasons are in the comments, and why you’re out there on the dance floor every week.
